Kahani (Premise)
Meerut ka ek chaotic joint family — shor, drama, roz ki khich-khich. Aur phir aati hai Mohini (Yami Gautam Dhar) — picture-perfect nayi bahu. Swadisht khana banati hai, sabka dil jeet leti hai, ghar ko swarg bana deti hai. Perfect, hai na?
Par ghar ka devar Bantu sochta hai: itna perfect koi kaise ho sakta hai? Dheere-dheere uska shak gehra hota hai — kahin ye aadarsh bahu koi daayan to nahi, jo bhesh badal kar ghar me ghus aayi hai? Aur phir kahani me entry hoti hai Raavan Raj ki — ek dark fantasy layer jahan Mohini ko ek ultimate evil force se takrana padta hai.
Trailer (3 minute 2 second) premise ko smartly setup karta hai: pehle family-comedy ka mahaul, phir supernatural mystery ka tadka, aur aakhir me good-versus-evil ki badi fantasy battle ka vaada. Spoilers se bachne ke liye itna hi — aage ka maza theatre me.
Performances
Yami Gautam Dhar — film ki eklauti consistent taakat, aur critics is par lagbhag unanimous hain. The Week ne kaha woh “delivers with whatever she is offered” — picture-perfect bahu se lekar supernatural avatar tak ka range unhone poori imaandari se nibhaya. Koimoi ne unhe 4/5 dete hue “what Indian cinema was missing” tak kaha. Par Indian Express ki Shubhra Gupta ka 1/5 wala verdict yaad dilata hai: achhi acting kharab writing ko bacha nahi sakti.
Anurag Thakur (devar Bantu) — kai critics ke liye film ka pleasant surprise; The Week ne unhe film ke behtar performances me gina. Shak karne wale devar ka comic timing kaam karta hai.
Addinath M Kothare (pati Raja) — theek-thaak; character me ek twist hai jo thodi jaan daalta hai.
Supporting cast — Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisht, Sushmita Mukherjee — apne limited scope me warmth laati hain, par The Week ka point sahi hai: writing unhe apni individual eccentricities dikhane ka mauka hi nahi deti.
Direction Aur Technical Side
Balaji Mohan ka Bollywood directorial debut — aur critics ka verdict hai ki yehi film ka sabse kamzor hissa hai. Early Verdict me humne jo risk flag kiya tha, wohi hua: patle premise ko first half me had se zyada kheencha gaya (Free Press Journal: “first half dull, ROFL moments missing”), aur phir second half me Ram-Raavan-Kaal Sheel wali mythology khichdi ne kahani ko hi uljha diya. The Week ne seedha kaha — Ramayana ko reimagine karne ka interesting space tha, par makers ne use “preachy and, frankly, dull” bana diya.
Sacnilk ka 8-critic consensus (45/100, “mostly negative”) saaf kehta hai: concept interesting tha, par weak screenplay, inconsistent humour aur uneven pacing ne dubo diya. Climax expected impact deliver nahi karta.
Technical side par G. V. Prakash Kumar ka music (“Bhabhi Tabaahi”) festive energy laata hai, aur production values (Aanand L. Rai + Amazon MGM Studios) polished hain — par ye film ko bacha nahi paate. News18 ki sabse kaatne wali line: horror-comedy ko suspense, laughter aur scares chahiye — “these are the exact three things missing”.
Box Office: Day 1 Aur Day 2
Numbers Sacnilk ke (TOI, NDTV, Daily Jagran ne report kiya; Day-2 par Bollywood Hungama ka estimate ₹4.25 crore hai):
- Day 1 (Fri): ₹3.25 crore net (6,281 shows, 11% occupancy)
- Day 2 (Sat): ₹4 crore net, +23.1% jump (5,945 shows, 14% occupancy)
- 2-day India net: ₹7.25 crore (BH estimate: ~₹7.5 crore)
- India gross: ₹8.63 crore | Overseas: ₹1.50 crore | Worldwide 2-day: ₹10.13 crore
- Footfalls: Saturday ko 1.79 lakh; do din me kul 3.34 lakh
Saturday ka jump encouraging hai — par context zaroori hai: Day-1 base chhota tha, occupancy ab bhi sirf 14% hai, aur shows Day-2 par kam hue. Bollywood Hungama ka assessment seedha hai: word-of-mouth mixed se negative ki taraf jhuka hai, isliye lambi theatrical legs mushkil hain. First weekend ~₹12 crore par atak sakta hai. Ek ummeed: Mangalwar 20 Oct ko Dussehra holiday hai, jo kuch crore ka bump de sakta hai — uske baad weekdays hi faisla karenge.
Critics Aur Audience Kya Keh Rahe Hain
Critic consensus clearly negative hai — Sacnilk ne 8 reviews ka average nikala: 45/100, “mostly negative” (1 positive, 2 mixed, 5 negative):
- The Indian Express (1/5): “Unwatchable mess” — sabse sakht verdict.
- The Week (1/5): “Frustrating watch, best skipped” — mythology angle preachy aur dull.
- News18: Horror-comedy jo na darati hai na hasaati — “snooze fest”; theatre me log reels scroll karte mile.
- NDTV (2/5): “Neither funny nor on point with the supernatural.”
- Bollywood Hungama (2/5): Interesting premise, par weak writing.
- Cinema Express (2/5), Free Press Journal (2/5): Yami mehnati, par film lacklustre.
- India Today (2.5/5), Moneycontrol (3/5): Mixed — family wale kuch laughs milte hain.
- Koimoi (4/5): Lone positive — Yami ko festive family entertainer me saraha.
Audience trend critics se thoda behtar hai — Day-2 ka 23% jump aur occupancy me sudhaar dikhata hai ki family audience weekend par aa rahi hai. Par WOM ka jhukav negative taraf hai, isliye Sunday ke baad ka trend hi asli test hoga.
Kiske Liye Hai Ye Film
- Yami Gautam ke fans: Unki mehnat dekhne layak hai — par ummeed thodi kam rakhkar jao.
- Family audience (sirf light mood me): Dussehra weekend par timepass chahiye to chalegi — par “paisa-vasool entertainer” wali ummeed mat rakho.
- Horror-comedy lovers: Stree-level scares ya laughs ki ummeed hai to skip karo — News18 ne sahi kaha, dono hi missing hain.
- Serious cinema seekers: Tum Prahaar wali line me lago — ye film tumhare liye nahi bani.
Final note: Ye Full Review hai — Day-1/Day-2 box office aur critic consensus (Sacnilk 45/100, mostly negative) ke saath rating final ki gayi hai (4.5/10). Early Verdict (7/10) trailer aur buzz par tha; asli film us ummeed par khari nahi utri — aur hum ye baat chhupa nahi rahe.
